A recent addition to the Retarus suite of services is OCR (Optical Character Recognition) which helps customers facilitate workflow automation for the receipt of faxes. The service, which supports bar-code recognition, is more expansive than any other OCR offering from rival fax service suppliers. It allows customers to turn fax content to coded data that can be delivered in XML (eXtended Markup Language), txt, searchable PDF, CSV (comma-separated variables) or Microsoft® Excel, and the content can also be converted into fields that are customer-specified. For those customers concerned with security and compliance, the OCR technology allows all faxes to be scanned by email content filtering systems to protect the organization.
